For many years in the gay community, the term Family was predominately used when referring to your blood relatives or your “family of choice”, meaning those close friends with whom you have bonded and became like “sisters’ or “brothers”. Luckily, as gay rights have progressed through the years, “family” has now come to mean much more.
Happily, your family can now consist of your spouse and children. As civil liberties for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders continue to change; more and more couples are marrying, becoming legal partners or simply committing themselves to each other thereby creating the start of what we have come to know as a family. The family notation becomes more prevalent when a couple has children. Happily, the rights for gays being responsible for the upbringing of children are another civil right that is growing. Whether children are added through adoption or naturally born prior to or during the relationship, families with gay parents are a reality.
Whether gay or straight, family time spent vacationing is a valuable experience for all involved.
